A split-level, double-storey residence overlooking Lake Hume, designed to maximise views, natural ventilation and seasonal comfort. This home blends modern insulated systems with natural textures to create a warm, sustainable family retreat.

A HOME DESIGNED FOR REAL LIFE

climate-responsive strategies come together to create homes that stand the test of time.

Client Brief

The clients wanted a practical, visually striking home that embraced the surrounding landscape while remaining comfortable year-round. Energy efficiency, durable finishes and a natural material palette were essential to their lifestyle.

Key Design Focuses

• Climate-Responsive Performance
Bondor Insulwall and Solarspan insulated roofing were chosen for strong thermal performance, keeping the home cooler in summer and warmer in winter.

• Natural Materiality
Stacked stone, spotted gum timber, rustic brickwork and Scyon weatherboard bring warmth and character while complementing the rural surroundings.

• Ventilation & Light
Double-glazed windows and Low-E louvres were positioned internally and externally to optimise cross-breezes and capture the cool summer airflow across the lake.

• Custom Details
Handcrafted spotted gum barn doors and carefully selected finishes bring depth, personality and long-term durability.

Challenges & Solutions

The sloping terrain required a split-level configuration to retain accessibility and preserve uninterrupted views. Material selection and orientation were carefully planned to manage heat gains and losses without relying heavily on mechanical systems.

Outcome

The result is a well-balanced, durable and beautifully detailed home that feels grounded in its setting. With excellent natural ventilation, a cohesive material palette and thoughtful climate-responsive design, the residence provides a comfortable retreat for the clients and their visiting family.
